Entrance to Pompeii is free for EU citizens under 18 and disabled individuals with their relatives. EU nationals aged 18-25 benefit from reduced ticket prices.

Take note that free admission to Pompeii is available on the first Sunday of each month.

The Pompeii Archaeological Park is open to visitors every day of the year.

Visiting hours vary according to the season:

1 April – 31 October:

09:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Last entrance is at 5:30 PM

1 November – 31 March:

09:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Last entrance is at 3:30 PM

Closed on: 25th December, 1st  May, 1st January

Tip: Purchasers of online tickets will be provided with a PDF ticket that can be printed or displayed on their smartphone, enabling visitors to proceed directly to the entrance turnstiles of the Archaeological Park.

Pompeii is located near Naples, in the Campania region of Italy. The city was preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and is now an archaeological park.

The park has the following three entrances:

  1. Porta Marina (via Villa dei Misteri): Serving as the main entrance of Pompeii.
  2. Piazza Esedra (piazza Porta Marina Inferiore): Offers a less crowded alternative.
  3. Piazza Anfiteatro (piazza Immacolata): Located east of Pompeii, serving as an excellent starting point for sightseeing.

Tip: Pompeii Ancient City spreads over a very large area of 44 hectares. It is recommended to spend at least half a day to visit the whole area. If you have more time, you can spend a full day to discover all the beauties of the city.

Getting There from Naples:

Getting to Pompeii from Naples is a breeze, and here are the best options to reach this archaeological wonder:

  • Circumvesuviana Train: The most convenient and budget-friendly option is to take the Circumvesuviana regional train, departing from Porta Nolana and Garibaldi stations. A journey takes a maximum of 35 minutes.   • By Car: If you prefer to drive on your own, follow the A3 highway Napoli-Salerno, and exit at Pompeii Ovest. To do so, enter the coordinates N 40° 45′ 0.4284 E 14° 29′ into your navigator.
